The Nukta (Dot)

The Punjabi Sufi poet Bulleh Shah writes, “Ek nuktay wich gal mukdi eh” — within a single dot, the entire discourse ends. For Maaida, this nukta is not merely a mark, but the condensation of existence itself: the visible and the unseen gathered into a point of origin. It becomes a symbol of the human condition — at once physical and metaphysical — where body, soul, and nafs (ego) converge within the fragile architecture of being.

While science traces life to particles and measurable beginnings, Maaida reflects on subtler dimensions: the immaterial realities that inhabit the material form. In her work, the dot becomes a contemplative space where the finite contains intimations of the infinite. She explores the tension between the existent and the non-existent, nesting human perception and Divine beauty within a bounded, earthly form. Through this meditation, Maaida quietly asks how the boundless infinitude of the Creator might be reflected — however faintly — within creation itself, and whether the smallest point can, in truth, hold the vastness of all that is.
