Mahtab - The Moon
In this piece, Maaida turns her gaze toward the heavens, translating the quiet majesty of the cosmos into sacred geometry. At the heart of the composition she places a radiant 12 pointed Islamic geometric star pattern, symbolising the gliding stars and planets moving in flawless rhythm across the night sky.
Encircling the design, the moon appears in its shifting phases, waxing, full, and waning, gently tracing the passage of the lunar year. Through these cycles, Maaida honours the sacred rhythm that marks the arrival of Ramadan and the celebration of Eid. The moon becomes both timekeeper and witness, embodying renewal, patience, and light emerging from darkness.
Inspired by evening skies, her palette of indigo, violet, and turquoise carries the quiet, reflective beauty of sacred hours. Through celestial geometry and soft cosmic washes, Maaida invites the viewer into contemplation, offering a meditation on Divine precision, sacred time, and the eternal return of mercy and light.
This piece, titled Mahtab, was created in collaboration with Westfield for their Eid Campaign 2024–2025.
