Influenced by her travels in Italy, particularly the cultural atmosphere of Sicily, Maaida creates a warm visual dialogue between two artistic traditions. An Italianate border of soft, flowing foliage intertwines with a delicate geometric star framework, gently embracing a classical Islamic geometric rosette at the heart of the composition.
The painting traces the shared journey of motifs, mathematics, pigments, and craft techniques as they travelled across lands from the Muslim world to the Mediterranean, where artists and artisans adapted these visual languages to local materials and sensibilities. Rendered with subtle warmth and harmony, the work reflects cultural continuity, exchange, and the quiet beauty of artistic heritage evolving through time.
