Basirah - The Vision of the Soul

Maaida explores Basirah, the higher consciousness and spiritual vision of the soul, reflecting the inner faculty through which truth is perceived beyond the physical eye. Drawing inspiration from verses 14–15 of Quran’s Surah Al-Qiyamah 75:14-15, the work meditates on the moment of self-reckoning and inward clarity.

بَلِ الْإِنسَانُ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِهِ بَصِيرَةٌ
وَلَوْ أَلْقَىٰ مَعَاذِيرَهُ

“But man is a clear witness against himself, even if he presents his excuses.”

The painting examines the layered dimensions of self-awareness and the gravity of inner truth. The symbolic teardrop form represents the metaphorical womb of the human mind — a sacred, contemplative space where insight is nurtured and born. Expanses of negative space, together with the presence of 24-karat gold leaf, signify the imprint of the Divine word, anchoring the transient nature of thought within the permanence and luminosity of sacred truth.
