Maaida’s first artwork after becoming a mother is a deeply personal tribute to the people of Palestine, reflecting a quiet dedication to protecting the sanctity of life and land. The painting centers on the golden Dome of the Rock, the sacred octagonal shrine in Jerusalem, emerging softly through fluid watercolour layers as if rising through memory and light. Beneath the structure, the outline of Palestine unfolds through restrained, translucent hues, allowing the map to appear and dissolve gently within the wash of pigment. A traditional keffiyeh pattern subtly transforms into a flock of birds in flight, symbolising freedom, resilience, and the enduring hope for liberation. The composition carries a meditative stillness, balancing symbolism and tenderness, while expressing protection, continuity, and reverence for life through Maaida’s expressive watercolour language.
